Every other product on this site assumes the device has already been dropped. A finger loop, a wrist strap or a crossbody lanyard is the only category that reduces how often that happens, and phones have grown larger and more slippery every generation while hands haven't.
Where it wins
Prevents drops instead of mitigating them. Very cheap. Useful one-handed on large phones.
Where it costs you
Adhesive grips can lift a case or mark its finish. Straps get in the way on a desk. Cheap lanyard clips fail, and fail catastrophically.
What to check
Check what it attaches to. Adhesive pads stick to the case, not the phone, so they leave when the case does. Lanyards threaded through a card slot are more secure than any adhesive, but need a case designed for one.
