Do iPhone 17 Pro screen protectors fit the iPhone 18 Pro?
Almost certainly, and you should still buy the listing that says so. Apple gives the iPhone 18 Pro identical body dimensions to the 17 Pro, and several manufacturers now sell a single protector fitted to both — that manufacturer claim is worth more than the measurements.
This comes up every September, and this year it has an unusually clear answer — along with one detail about the lineup that catches people out before they get as far as the protector.
There is no plain iPhone 18
Apple announced two iPhone 18 models: the iPhone 18 Pro at 6.3in and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at 6.9in. There is no standard iPhone 18 and no iPhone 18 Plus. The rest of the current range is the 6.5in iPhone Air, the folding iPhone Duo, and last year's iPhone 17 and 17e carried over.
That matters here because a search for an “iPhone 18 screen protector” returns listings for both Pro models mixed together, and they are not interchangeable. The 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are different sizes of glass. Check which phone you actually have before you check anything else.
What Apple's own numbers say
The iPhone 18 Pro measures 150.0 × 71.9 × 8.75 mm, with a 6.3in display. The iPhone 17 Pro measures 150.0 × 71.9 × 8.75 mm, with a 6.3in display. The 18 Pro Max and 17 Pro Max are likewise identical to each other at 163.4 × 78.0 × 8.75 mm.
Not similar. The same, to the tenth of a millimetre, on every axis. Both generations use Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and both keep the Dynamic Island.
That is a strong starting point, and on its own it is still not proof. A screen protector is cut to the panel and its cutouts, not to the outside of the phone. Two handsets can share a chassis while the sensor housing behind the glass moves by a millimetre — and a millimetre is the difference between a clean fit and a protector that sits proud at one corner.
The evidence that actually settles it
The useful signal is not the dimensions. It is that manufacturers who have had the phone in hand are willing to put both models on one box.
Spigen lists its GlasTR EZ FIT for the iPhone 18 Pro, 17 Pro, 17 and 16 Pro together. Ailun sells a three-pack listed for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro. JETech does the same. On the larger phone, Ailun and ESR both list packs covering the 18 Pro Max and 17 Pro Max.
A manufacturer that gets this wrong absorbs the returns, so a combined listing is a claim with money behind it. That is a different quality of evidence from a spec-sheet comparison, and it is the one to buy on.
What did change
The front camera is new — an 18MP Center Stage sensor, up from the previous generation, with Face ID still driven by TrueDepth in the same housing. Apple has not moved the Dynamic Island, and the protectors coming to market are cut as though nothing moved.
Worth knowing because pre-launch, the expectation ran the other way. Leaked protectors circulating over the summer suggested a much smaller Dynamic Island cutout, and a good deal of advice was written on that basis, including an earlier version of this page. The shipping phone did not do it. If you read in August that your old protector would not fit, that guidance is out of date.
So what should you buy
Buy a protector whose listing names your exact iPhone 18 model. If it also names the 17 Pro, that is a point in its favour rather than a warning sign — it means the maker has committed to both.
If you already own unopened 17 Pro protectors, they will very probably fit, and it costs you nothing to try one before buying more. What is not worth doing is seeking out discounted old stock on the assumption that it carries over. The current-generation listings are the same money.
One thing that does not carry over at all: the iPhone Duo. Its 7.6in inner display folds and is finished with a nano-texture etch, and tempered glass belongs on neither. That phone needs film made for it, and nothing from the Pro line is relevant.
Common mistakes
That model does not exist this year. If you have the smaller of the two new Pro phones you want iPhone 18 Pro; the 6.9in one is the 18 Pro Max. The 6.5in iPhone Air is a separate phone again, and needs its own protector.
Diagonal size tells you almost nothing on its own. What decides fit is the cutout geometry at the top of the panel and how far the adhesive border sits from the curve. Those can change while the diagonal stays put.
It may well fit, and you have no recourse if it does not. The generational listings cost the same. Save the gamble for something where the downside is not a wasted sheet of glass.
